Tomáš Gabzdil Libertíny was born in Slovakia in 1979.
Studied at the Technical University Košice in Slovakia focusing on engineering and design. In 2001, he was awarded George Soros’s Open Society Institute Scholarship to study at The University of Washington in Seattle, where he explored painting and sculpture. He continued his study at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava in painting and conceptual design. After receiving Huygens Scholarship, he enrolled in the Masters program at the Design Academy Eindhoven where he received his MFA in 2006.
He founded his studio in Rotterdam where he is focused on exploring strategies in design and construction of objects.
His works have been recently acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Cincinnati Art Museum and Mudac, Museum of Design and Contemporary Applied Arts in Lausanne.
