About the work: This large kinetic installation was originally conceived for the 2012 London Olympics but realized in 2024. The satellite dish from made from beeswax is mounted on an industrial robotic arm. The robotic arm moves during the opening hours of the museum. It follows precisely the movement of the Sun as it moves across the sky almost like a sunflower. The honeybees themselves similarly orient themselves using our star as their natural GPS to travel from and back to the beehive. They can see its radiation even during the cloudy days due to their capacity to “see” ultraviolet part of the spectrum. The work is both kinetic performance as well as process based collaboration with nature. It speak volumes about our relationship with nature and technology as well as wider interconnectedness with our universe.
